I took this photo at the old Moravian mission station
Goedverwacht, about two hours north of Cape Town. This is typical of the old cottages there. The village was established as a cattle farm in 1810 by Hendrik Schalk Burger, a farmer. He bequethed the farm to his slave Maniesa and
her descendants, who by and large still have ownership of the village today. At the last count, there were about 2
000 residents, overwhelmingly Afrikaans speaking. The Moravian Church is elsewhere on this blog.
