Son M. is celebrating his birthday today. The state declared a State of Emergency when he was born. I drove home from the Provincial Hospital on Port Elizabeth's main boulevard, to see it lined with troop carriers.
OBSERVATION: He was rather in too much of a hurry to get into the world, and caused his mother great affliction. He himself went into distress, with his heart rate falling to forty. In the emergency, I was ordered out of the birthing room. He was born with the help of foreceps, and had the marks to prove it. And that was only his first day.
