2011 was a year in which a Church fête exploded with ideas. The photo on the right shows one of them: face painting. Put together, these ideas made a significant difference to the fête as a whole -- not merely in financial terms, but in terms of the make-up and the spirit of the occasion. Interestingly, few if any of the new ideas came from the established Fête Committee, although the Committee played an important part in incorporating these ideas. The new ideas came through the discussions of small groups in the Church. OBSERVATION: I was puzzled by this fresh wind -- but what this was, I think, was a broader consultation than usual, and with a broader cultural and social compass. We took everybody more seriously.
