Human Short-Sightedness

This is surely a classic of human short-sightedness (pictured). It is the bridge in Tesselaarsdal. There were no problems, say the locals, while the main road wound its way down one bank of the river and up the other. Then came the bridge. Water dammed up, destroyed the bridge, destroyed a house, toppled the electricity pylons, and a whole lot more. One sees the power of the river in flood in the wall of earth on the right. So the municipality fixed the bridge. Just wait, say the locals, for the next flood.
