The "spoken touches" in a Sunday service say a lot about a Church -- where spoken touches refer to things of personal interest, such as birthdays, or personal achievements. The spoken touches (or not) are not insignificant. Above all, I think, they reflect whether a Church sets its focus on the Lord, or on Community (and the Lord). Behind those two attitudes, too, there may lie major theologies. I myself deliberately keep the focus on the Lord, putting most of the spoken touches in the notices, which are read by somebody else. OBSERVATION: Yesterday I attended a Church which doesn't even put spoken touches in the notices. But many do it that way. It shows "where they are at".
