Over-Legislation

I counted the traffic signs this morning on the 500 metre / yard long Bill Peters Drive in Cape Town. Counting both the signs on posts, and the signs painted onto the tar, there were about sixty signs over that stretch. Add to that various hazard strips, and it might be close to 100. If one were to read only the signs on posts, it would be more than one sign per second when using the road. Presumably, one should walk the distance first to memorise the signs. OBSERVATION: One wonders at the human striving to legislate, design, manufacture, and install all those signs. Not to speak of enforcement. I counted five cameras monitoring the road. It is a symbol of what our society has become.
