I took the photo this morning in Cape Town's Groote Kerk (Great Church). Today, however, the "great" Church is overshadowed by much larger buildings. The first Dutch settlers arrived in 1652. The cornerstone for the Church was laid in 1700. Twenty years later, the Church needed greatly expanding. But the workmanship was poor, and the whole lot was demolished and rebuilt, to be re-opened in 1841 as one sees it today. OBSERVATION: The Pelz en Zoon organ of 1957 was this morning being tuned. Clicking on the photo gives a better impression.
