This
photo seems to typify for me the incorporation of children in South African funerals. At a graveside (above), three children show intense interest as the coffin is lowered into the grave. A woman stands with a wreath, and a man throws earth onto the coffin from a small pail.
OBSERVATION: In my own community, one would not likely see children at a funeral, least of all pressing their way forward like this to understand.
