Keeping Input On Track

Every Church will know it. Someone is invited to give a testimony in Church. The minister gives them, say, five or ten minutes, then they hog the lectern indefinitely. Sometimes, the overtime simply lies in a person's nature – but occasionally, I think, it is willful, even defiant. I do not allow people up front again, who abused the opportunity. OBSERVATION: To overcome this problem, I often interview people with questions discussed in advance -- and during the interview, keep hold of the microphone. This makes it far easier to bring things to an elegant conclusion. My thinking is that we are building a Church, not indulging an individual, and so testimonies need to be reasonably disciplined. Elsewhere on this blog, I have described what African Indigenous Churches do: they wegsing someone, or "sing them away".
