I am thinking of printing and distributing, worldwide, about 100 draft copies of my metaphysic. This morning I inquired whether it would be cheaper to do it from the USA, or cheaper to do it from here, the tip of Africa. Printing a book at the tip of Africa costs roughly half of what it does in the USA. Yet packaging and posting -- it stands to reason -- costs about four times as much. All things considered, it costs about twice as much to print and distribute a book from South Africa. OBSERVATION: I was quoted Royal Mail from South Africa. While our own postal service is about a quarter cheaper, postal staff told me that there was no telling what kind of a backlog sorting centres had (it may be months), and it would be no surprise if a book took three months to reach its destination. The cost of printing one 200-page book locally is about R40 or $3.
POSTSCRIPT: I since obtained a quote for R20 or $1.50 per book.
