Farm Labourer

I took this photo last Christmas, of a farm labourer at a clan gathering, dressed in his finest. He is an uncle of my wife's, a tractor driver up on a desolate plateau. He calls me "nyana", son -- and as is typical for his culture, he himself bears several names. I would describe him as a "rough diamond". He was the first farm labourer I stayed with, at his invitation, in modest circumstances. His wife is a district deaconess in the Congregational Church: she bears responsibility for the plateau.
