Recently I took this photo of the oldest member of the oldest generation of my wife's family. He requested a few photos, perhaps having seen those I took of family members recently deceased. He said: "I am next." He is seventy-seven years of age. OBSERVATION: His daughter stands with a panga. He told me on parting that I should learn the Xhosa words of farewell blessing. I have all the "hello" words, but I don't (yet) find words of farewell.
