An ex-professor of mine in Switzerland, Armin Mauerhofer, notes that there are three major “strategies and concepts” that that the Church in Switzerland is using to rise above stagnation: “the House Church concept, the Youth Churches, and the Emerging Church”. Those are the strategies and concepts that are being used -- however this does not refer to what they have achieved. He considers that none of these is “decisive” in helping the Church to rise above stagnation. That is, they really don’t make the difference. OBSERVATION: This is a significant finding, since these strategies and concepts are frequently presented as the alternative. Yet Churches can rise above stagnation -- even what seems like terminal stagnation. I have experienced it.
