This one is about Christian unity. A few times, I have preached on the book of Philippians, the “Letter of Joy”. At the beginning of Chapter 2, Paul lists four reasons for Christian unity. It is interesting to note that three of these are about God’s relationship to us, while only one about our relationship to each other. OBSERVATION: Some Churches would seem to have the opposite emphasis. A flock has sheep of different kinds -- all the more so in urban melting pots. Some bleat in different ways. Some wear different coats. Some are “awkward sheep”. Yet they all belong to the flock, given that certain things are true about God’s relationship to them. In theological terms, this may be called “positional unity”.
