Generational Switch

About thirty years ago, in South Africa -- and perhaps far more widely -- we experienced a generational switch in the Church. The older generation contrasted starkly with the newer generation. For the older generation, it was about values, history, culture, etiquette -- in fact too little about spiritual priorities. One easily took offence at the younger generation, and the younger generation were nonplussed. This in the context of my belief that a Church should contain "everyone". Today one does not find such a rupture -- such a stark contrast -- although there certainly are differences. OBSERVATION: Perhaps it was the Sixties that came in between. It was not an easy gap to bridge, although a better understanding of the gospel was I think the greatest help on both sides.
