During the last month or so, my VW has been in for repairs five times -- but not so much because of the car. One mechanic inserted a Renault part instead of a VW part, while mechanics worked three times on the same problem with the cooling system. The last of them found that it was a crack running down a water pipe. OBSERVATION: This is an awful lot of inconvenience and expense. One mechanic told me that there no longer are the skills in South Africa to fix cars as one once did. He gave as an example a woman who obtained a R130 000 quote to have the engine of her Lancia replaced, as two pistons had failed. He quoted her R30 000 to replace the pistons.
