The sound level of parties may be a problem -- not to speak of Church services, celebrations, restaurants, and so on. Some would prefer to talk. Some find the noise level too high. There may be statutory limitations on noise. And so on. One might suggest ear plugs, silencers, muffs. Yet consider, instead, reversing this scheme. Reduce the general noise level, and plug party enhancing ear plugs in one's ears. These would raise the noise level, on demand, for the party-goer. In itself, this may not be so attractive -- yet consider now introducing standard sound effects -- for example, echo, compressor, bass. More than this, enhancing or enriching the sound in various ways -- for example, doubling the beat, adding rave effects, cymbals, among other things. OBSERVATION: Technically, this would be fairly easy. One may not even require new hardware -- merely an app. An iPhone could do it, for instance. The possibilities go far beyond what I suggest in this post.
