I attended a Church Meeting recently where there was a question about the future: the Church owned no manse, and the present minister owned his own house. This is a situation one comes across every now and then. Here are my thoughts: such arrangements may work in the present -- however, it isn't correct towards a minister. My biggest concern would be for a Church's future. The want of a manse could result in the Church, in the future, thinking small -- cutting the coat to the cloth -- by which I mean advancing by sight rather than faith. If so, that may result in a dynamic Church shifting to "maintenance mode".
