A minister is a trouble-shooter, which is something I enjoy, although it may be hard. As an example, I was called out to intervene in a marriage crisis. There was rage and destruction, and the session began in a highly charged atmosphere. It took a long time to settle down. We got to the core of it when I asked each partner to tell me what marriage was about. The husband said a few commonplace things -- but when the wife spoke, I heard: demand, demand, demand. I tackled that directly: "Jesus said you cannot be my disciple unless you lose your life. One of the first places that happens is in marriage." OBSERVATION: I addressed the husband, too. It takes two to make a fight.
