Absent Members

A question which routinely comes up in ministry is how a minister should follow up missing congregants. Many ministers say on principle: "No, no follow up. The Holy Spirit must move people to come, not me." Others follow up congregants the moment they discover they are missing. I myself have not wanted to nanny congregants. If there is a clear and present reason to see someone who is missing, then yes. And one does wish to encourage people in their spiritual development, if there should be an impediment. I have followed up congregants around the third time they were absent. OBSERVATION: Research has shown that a focus on missing members is counter-productive. I think beyond the first follow up.
