My father was a minister before me, in the city. There were a lot of poor, and both he and I included them in our ministry (the photo shows a funeral I once conducted for the poor). But I hadn't known that my father did it, too. To my surprise, someone told me about it last week. OBSERVATION: I think that, far from sapping the energies or resources of a Church, if one has a lively ministry to the poor, it both demonstrates that the Church is alive, and contributes to that liveliness. Conversely, when Churches falter, the poor begin to disappear from the scene.
