In 2 Corinthians 3:5, Paul speaks on behalf of Christian ministers: "Not that we think we are qualified" (NLT). "There is nothing that allows us to claim that we are capable" (GNT). "Not that we are competent" (NIV). At least, not as ordinary human beings. This is something that sets ministers -- and surely all Christians -- apart from the world's thinking: "I am qualified. I am competent. I can do it." When we enter ministry, we are not competent. We are not qualified. In fact, many of the greatest ministers were obviously not qualified -- through lack of competence at the start, or through lack of strength or ability to do their job. There are many names: Bunyan, Watts, Taylor, and so on. What is important, however, is that God chooses to use His ministers. It is true that one can't do it -- but wait a moment, given a call, God will.
