The problem of evil came up in a Bible study tonight. It is arguably the biggest theological problem there is. There are many answers to the question. God doesn't have the power to prevent it. We are responsible for it ourselves. We are all under a curse. Evil prevents greater evil. Evil leads us to God. God gives us the means to overcome. God will set things to rights in the next life. And so on. Some of these answers have much merit, some of them are, I think, cruel. From a philosophical point of view, I would think that the only finally satisfactory explanation is that God is in fact all powerful, all good, and all seeing, yet that our own concept of these attributes is less than complete.
