A Church officer accused me this week of hatred -- "this hatred you have" -- in connection with my old urban Church. I shared his opinion with wife E. She commented: "What hatred?" It isn't there. But take the following difficulty, which has concerned me much -- that my reputation has suffered serious damage, and continues to suffer damage, from a small number of people in the Church who have propagated false rumours that are still "live" today -- and people believe them with a passion. In this case, it is one's natural right to respond -- which means a right so obvious that it existed even before anyone thought up a law. I state what is the case therefore -- of which there are a few examples on this blog over the last few days. OBSERVATION: Rumours of hatred are rumours themselves. It is actually of serious concern that there are some awful rumours in circulation. The Church really should address them.
