In a Bible study tonight, we studied Psalm 147 -- in which appears the words: "He takes no delight in the strength of the horse, nor any pleasure in the legs of a man. The Lord takes pleasure in those who fear Him, those who hope in His mercy." Applying this to the Congregational Church system for a moment, we take no pleasure in the strong, the forceful, the pushy, the angry, the clever, the rich, and son on. We take pleasure in God speaking through each one, without respect of persons -- because each one is indwelt by the Holy Spirit. This is the essence of Congregationalism. OBSERVATION: This means, too, that Congregational meetings are unusually participative.
