This is a photo taken by one of my friends in the Kiribati Republic. It is the causeway which links Bairiki and Betio, on Tarawa. When I was a child, there was no causeway here. We took a ferry from Bairiki to Betio -- and some adventurers drove Land Rovers across the reef. I remember one Land Rover which was caught by the incoming tide, and was made sport of by all who saw it.
OBSERVATION: What one sees here was not seen ten years ago, and is caused in part by sea level rise. I went to school in Bairiki.
