I attended a Bible study group tonight, in which the verse "Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought" came up. Why not? The reasons people gave centred on their own lowly condition. I first saw the opposite. It is the exalted condition of others that prevents us from thinking too highly of ourselves. Because they belong to Christ, they have received the Holy Spirit, therefore they have spiritual treasure to share with the Church. In fact, the passage in question (Romans 12) spells that out. OBSERVATION: This is an important reason why diverse congregations can get along -- and it needs to be kept at the forefront.
