Diaconate Size

Elders and deacons under my ministr(ies) have generally numbered about ten. There was a deacon who said we didn't need all these people, and we should radically slash the numbers. However, one of the core reasons for a larger body was representation. We sought to have every major aspect of the Church represented on our diaconate, and found that this offered valuable perspective in our meetings, and smoothed communication, and served as a testimony to who we were. Related to this, most elders and deacons had a portfolio, so that every major aspect of ministry was handled collectively, and received attention. OBSERVATION: Some Churches simply say: "Jesus had twelve. So do we."
