A friend asked how to make a simple metal detector. Here is a very, very
simple design. It shows a physical layout, as seen from above. The IC's pin 1 is top left. There are instructions for a coil here: BFO Coil, but almost any coil will work, even a 100µH radial inductor. Wrap the aerial wire around a MW radio aerial, tune in, and
experiment. Don't expect much from a BFO design, but I once found a
watch with one. OBSERVATION: As BFO goes, this one performs quite well. Its extreme simplicity does not make it less capable. A coil's Faraday shield goes to 0V. The shield is not absolutely essential, but advised.
