Suppressed Premises

The biggest fault of my metaphysic (a total philosophy), wrote an editor, was "suppressed premises". To put it simply, I was not being explicit about certain things. But the more I chase up suppressed premises, the more I find that my fault lies in borrowing suppressed premises. Take the all-important concept of "ought". The philosopher John Broome does some very good work on this, however he begins: "I shall not try to define its meaning; I assume you already know what 'ought' means." So what is it? Or try a less serious source, Wikipedia: "Many writers make claims about what ought to be, based on statements about what is." And that is about it. So I find that I need to do pioneering work to overcome suppressed premises.
