Spirit Of Control

I was talking to someone yesterday who said: "I hate the spirit of control in the Church." This is a very big problem in Churches in general. In my view, the spirit of control is the very opposite of the Holy Spirit which is freedom and joy. I am thinking especially about how Churches are governed. One lets the Holy Spirit lead the way, or one seizes (human) control -- to channel the Church, engineer it, coerce it, and so on. The spirit of control may be there for various reasons: one fears failure, one fears opposition, one is protecting certain cultural values, one is up to no good, and so on ...
