I have witnessed fairly rapid decline and disintegration in some of our townships, in which I have stayed. I took this photo yesterday, in the Eastern Cape. What one sees here is fairly common: an abandoned RDP (Reconstruction and Development Programme) house, with doors, glass, and ceiling removed. But it gets worse. This one still has its rafters, roof, walls, and door and window frames. See the inset bottom left of another (once) RDP house that I photographed two doors away. You may click on the photo(s) to enlarge. OBSERVATION: But there is a waste of lives, too. For example, a hungry neighbour came begging bread.
