Many years ago, I co-conducted a wedding in the Roman Catholic Church -- a rare event. It was about twenty minutes before the wedding began, and there was a gentle buzz in the pews. Father A strode to the front of the Church, and took to the lectern. He boomed into the microphone: “Would you please be silent. This is a Church. It is a holy place. It is not a cinema. In a cinema you can whisper in the rows. Not in a Church.” I took the photo from the altar behind him, where I was seated. OBSERVATION: Not seldom, clergy are not afraid to lay down the law here, in various ways. It would not be as common in the Global North.
