Looking back over poverty relief in my ministries, most of those we helped with significant amounts, either individually or as families, were already hard working people, yet barely able to support themselves and their families. I think now of an exception: a man who was too ill to work. We often gave them amounts which would relieve their situation: say two months’ rent, or a few months’ school fees. OBSERVATION: It was in fact a joy to do this. Many of the people we helped were precious to us, and we knew how badly they struggled. The way that I have seen it done might help others as they think on the challenges.
