Some twenty years ago, we introduced a practice in the Church, under my ministry, which approximately doubled our numbers at Church suppers. It is stupidly simple, and there is nothing spiritual about it. We began to offer free puddings. It is relatively cheap and easy to do -- however after many years, and much discussion, the pudding tradition was changed. We decided to serve coffee, tea, and biscuits instead. OBSERVATION: Attendance didn't drop back to half, but there was disappointment at the missing puddings. The problems with the puddings were the ... call it stampede of people wanting pudding, and the weariness of those who made them. Today I would say: do the puddings, but find a way not to burden or stress people.
