There has been a lot of gun violence in our country, though the situation is not as serious as some. Last week I stayed in a township where, for the first time, there were gun battles. In the middle of it, my brother-in-law's car alarm triggered -- it seems it was hit by a stray bullet. One man, closing his gate at the end of the day, was shot in the face and killed -- a random murder. OBSERVATION: One doesn't understand what that does to a community until one is there. For one thing, one won't go out to close one's gate at the end of the day. The wind blew the front door open, and the reaction was one of shock. Previously, one could carry a baseball bat to work as protection -- not now.
