I edited a short essay by a Black South African which was published yesterday. It is a simple essay, but it is perhaps important for reflecting a widespread attitude in Africa today (quote): "We do not need ideology and political identity." Together with that, it is the previous generation who still cling to ideology and political identity, therefore "Your time is over." Interestingly, the essay resonates with another recent essay by a White South African. The new essay is here: A New African Pragmatism. Pragmatism is doing what works. But is pragmatism itself an ideology?
