I came across notes today that I took in a diaconate meeting. Our treasurer had presented the budget, and concluded: "I have, however, budgeted for a R43,000 deficit." He looked at us quizzically. Our minutes secretary said musically: "That's your problem." I said jokingly: "Deal with it." OBSERVATION: It reveals an attitude of unconcern -- rather, trust in God. It also reveals a significant difference between Church finances and business finances. A businessman once commented that one wouldn't dream of budgeting for a deficit in business -- every cent has to come from somewhere. Yet in the Church, one reckons with the Lord's involvement. One year, we budgeted for a similar deficit, yet ended the year with a R57,000 surplus.
