Class Distinctions

As a minister, I have received a wide variety of questions surrounding the Christian faith -- and I have tried to answer each one, even if it took me some time. An elderly woman asked me why the following verse had been expunged from the hymn All Things Bright and Beautiful:
The rich man in his castle
The poor man at his gate
God made them, high and lowly
And ordered their estate.
The reason is that this verse could be seen to endorse class distinctions. Whether it did or not is a matter for debate. OBSERVATION: But is it Biblical? How about this verse: "The Lord sends poverty and wealth. He humbles and He exalts" (1 Samuel 2:7).
