Writing Style

This is about writing style. I am thinking of my metaphysic, but it applies equally to sermon writing. On the way to a complete metaphysic, I needed to make many decisions about writing style -- probably far more than one would imagine. I forget who taught me the following, but it has been one of the more important principles. Write such normal words and sentences that readers feel quite comfortable in them. There should be no cause for snag or disturbance. The read (or listening experience, for a sermon) should be effortless. Into this, insert the twists that make it unique. OBSERVATION: Most of our language is, in fact, couched in familiar words and phrases.
