Premarital Counselling

I recommend five years of premarital counselling. I'm joking -- however a year would do nicely. This is said from rich experience with marital counselling. Marriage is a big undertaking, and while it is one of the best things one can do, it is fraught with danger. Yet couples so often daydream their way into it. Some surely devote a tenth of the thought to marriage as they would to buying a car, or a house. It rather reminds me of the Three Wise Men of Gotham (see the picture -- taken from the 1901 edition of Mother Goose). OBSERVATION: I am thankful for having had premarital counselling myself. I am thankful that we had time and opportunity to think things through thoroughly. It was a big help, a lasting help.
