Two Moods

E and I were married in 2013. We had two wedding receptions -- partly to accommodate two cultures, partly for reasons of convenience. I wrote a post then about the moods of these receptions, which were strikingly different -- but I shelved it. Here it is now:
"E and I had two wedding receptions -- European and African, so to speak. The difference in mood was striking. The European reception was celebratory, congratulatory, and a time for recording memories. The African reception was filled with praises to God -- and sorrow and tears. A clan was taking customary leave of their daughter (God willing, they will see more of their daughter than before)."
OBSERVATION: When a man receives a wife in Xhosa culture, the wife and any children become his entirely. The parents especially renounce their rights over their daughter, and say farewell. This seems quite different to some European situations, where parents-in-law are influential.
