There are those definitive moments in life. One of mine was at seminary, when I asked a lecturer: "Doctor X, aren't you overemphasising grace at the expense of faith?" He replied: "No," and continued with the lecture! I felt completely defenceless. But the incident focused my interest in words. At the time, I discovered that grace was (I think) used 100+ times in the Bible, while faith was used 250+ times (not that that on its own would decide the matter). I went on, years later, to do a postgraduate degree which included linguistics (more specifically, semantics). It is one of the most useful areas I have studied.
