Ancient Kite Design

It's a photo of me in the 60s, holding an aerodynamic kite on a remote island. We asked the man in the photo where he obtained the design. Who taught the islanders to do this? He said, the gods. This week, I put the photo on Facebook, mentioning how hard it was to fly these kites. An islander responded: "Old Men from Tabiteuea who lived in the place where I lived (1976) taught us to build our own kite in that pattern. It became a favourite sport to show which kite can 'borau' in the air. I saw one kid being lifted up into the air ... and old folks pulled him down."
