We had a caretaker in the Church who had long sensed a call to ministry. This posed the question for us: should we expect him to fulfill his contractual duty as a caretaker, or should we promote him in his calling? We decided to promote him in his calling -- on condition that he made it up to us. This meant that if he wanted time off, he needed to make it up. If there were tasks he couldn't do, he had to find a way to get them done. If we needed his presence, he had to set someone in his place. And so on. There were some difficulties, but the grand purpose was fulfilled. He was finally ordained in the United Mission Church. We also "gave him some wind in his sails".
