Fear and Panic

There would seem to be fear and panic in South Africa over COVID-19, although some continue to party. I spoke to a young Xhosa woman today and she was terrified of the disease. It seemed unfair to me that she was not informed what this was all about. For instance, she was surprised when I told her that it more seriously affected the elderly. OBSERVATION: It all seems to stand in stark contrast with my youth, where I was exposed to various tropical diseases where, for long periods of time, there were no doctors. Although not specifically tropical diseases, I remember leprosy and tuberculosis in particular -- and insanity. My parents worked with bravery, and as best I remember, didn't tell us there was cause to be afraid.

POSTSCRIPT: We were however taught sensible behaviour.
