Circumspect Behaviour

Something that has always puzzled me is how people sometimes tell complete fictions. It seems hard to believe, and perhaps that is (in large part) why people believe them. An incident -- one among many -- that stands out for me is a Church member who claimed that I had said various things from the pulpit -- but they were pure inventions out of nothing. OBSERVATION: Church leadership books and courses often emphasise that ministers' behaviour should be beyond reproach. This is true -- yet this is often presented as the solution to possible smears. A large part of the trouble is not covered by circumspect behaviour. It reminds me of Titus 2: Be a pattern of good works, so that opponents will be ashamed. But where do opponents come from if there is a pattern of good works?
