I am sufficiently deep into the "representation" phase of my magnum opus to have several rejections by now -- which is inevitable. Consider some great books: Chicken Soup for the Soul (144 rejections), or Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance (121 rejections). There are said to be about ten reasons for rejection. Most of mine are "It doesn't fit the list." This means "We haven't done this before, and we don't wish to try it now." The advice in such cases is: "Try elsewhere." See Reasons for Rejection. On the positive side, most reviewers have been enthusiastic about my book. A world class editor summarised: "I would find it strange if you fail to find a publisher." OBSERVATION: It falls on me then to decide whether they are right.
