Sometimes, when people ask me what my hobby is, I say, "Testing operating systems." But I have varied interests. Over the last week (South Africa having largely been shut down) I tested about two operating systems a day. One can do this very fast -- say ten minutes for each one, to gain some basic impression. Most worked nicely, some were just too difficult to do much with, without careful study -- and I abandoned a few, for fear of compromising my own system. The most interesting one was Linux Crunch Bang ++ (pictured), which has a TUI (text-based user interface), but it is not a terminal. Unfortunately its pure idea is compromised when one calls up GUI (graphical user interface) programs, thus mixing TUI and GUI. My choice at the moment for a versatile and reliable workhorse is Linux LXLE.
