There is something one encounters much more frequently in ministry now than one did a generation ago: people who seek to solve problems through silence. I consider that silence is counter-productive for those who use it, for a number of reasons -- therefore I was interested to read an analysis of Lori Loughlin's position in connection with the U.S. college admissions scandal. A public relations expert commented, "If she's not going to say anything and she's not going to do anything, I think she's going to have a problem.” Even a mea culpa, he said, was better than silence. OBSERVATION: In the Church, silence is a problem not only for the individuals concerned, but it may cast a shadow over the whole Church.
